RUSSIA VISA PHOTO GUIDE

Russia visa photo requirements guide

Choose the route and file first, then prepare the values that belong to it.

Last reviewed: 17 August 2026

1. Start with the route

Russia is not one universal photo workflow. Unified e-Visa and Regular Visa have different submission channels and required files, and each route has its own points to confirm.

  • Choose the route before preparing a file.
  • Do not use e-Visa values for a Regular Visa application, or the other way round.

2. Prepare the Unified e-Visa bundle

The public instruction identifies a JPEG face photo and a separate JPEG passport-data image. The face photo is JPEG, 35:45, within 6 months, plain light-colored background, and face occupancy 70–80%.

  • Keep the face photo and passport page separate.
  • Do not guess pixel sizes, file limits, or editing permissions — follow the official instruction for your route.

3. Check how many photos your Regular Visa needs

Regular Visa uses a 35 × 45 mm physical photo, but the central official page has a common one-photo line and category-specific two-photo lines.

  • Confirm your category, nationality/residence, and the current checklist of the embassy or consulate that handles your application.
  • The photo count is not one universal rule — it depends on your category.

4. Separate documents and physical submission

Regular Visa category documents are post-specific and the original passport is submitted through the relevant mission, consular office, or visa center. The online form is only an initial stage.

  • Supporting documents differ by category and by the handling embassy or consulate.
  • Keep your identity documents in their original form until submission.

5. Recheck the live official route

Eligibility checks and upload limits are confirmed on the logged-in official portal. This guide does not submit an application or guarantee acceptance.

  • Use the current official portal and the current checklist of your embassy or visa centre.
  • If official pages differ, follow the current checklist of the embassy or visa centre that handles your application.

Frequently asked questions

What are the Unified e-Visa face-photo requirements?

JPEG, 35:45 aspect, within 6 months, plain light-colored background, and face occupancy 70–80%. Exact upload limits are confirmed on the logged-in application screen.

Is the passport data page the same as the face photo?

No. The Unified e-Visa uses separate JPEG files for the face photo and passport data page.

Does a Regular Visa require one photo or two?

The official central page contains both a common one-photo line and category-specific two-photo lines. The number is not one fixed value — it depends on your category and nationality/residence, and only the current checklist of the embassy or visa centre that handles your application settles it.

Can I use the Regular Visa 35×45mm rule as an online e-Visa pixel rule?

No. 35×45mm is the printed-photo size for the Regular Visa. The Unified e-Visa has its own digital image rules.

Does this guide guarantee acceptance?

No. It organizes route-specific official guidance. Re-check the current official instructions before upload or physical submission.
